The owner needed a new chain. Since it’s a single speed configuration, they’ll need one of the same length. The chain has a “quick link”, so the chain was reasonably easy to remove. The bike is secured (kind of) in a rack near a LBS. They will have the LBS ensure the new chain is the same length as the old one and buy a new “quick link”. Return to the bike rack (hoping the bike was still there), install the new chain and ride off. Case solved .
Why not simply bring the bike into the LBS if it’s so close, Sherlock?
