I seldom wear long pants today while cycling, but those metal Terry's trouser hoops were part of my standard commuting attire for many years. Back in the mid-to-late 1960s, when that photo was taken (you can see a 1965 Ford Galaxie behind the cyclist), centerpull brakes did separate middle and higher end bikes from the department store specials (and the tubular-forked Schwinn Continentals from the flat-forked Varsities).
