Some 15 years ago I was backpacking and came upon part of the trail that was lined with them. Suckers hurt. I was too lazy to go in my pack and zip on my pants legs. Poor decision. The GF and I had noticeable marks on our lower legs.
Yeah Convertible pants - I have some lightweight ones from Campmor, which have held up well for many years... still would use the velcro legs bands if using for cycling, even though they have leg cuff cinches... also would use some 'light cycling shorts', or what I got just a few years back, cycling underwear - sortta like cycling shorts with a chamois, but very light weight spandy weave which airs well...
