I ran the same problem than u when I came back after 10 years... The bikes arent even similar to the ones we used to ride.

U have to get a new drive train.. i mean shifters (brifters) cranks, FD and RD oh and a new set of wheels (at least a new rear one).

Now the problem it is to decide between campy or shimano. (Once u get the brifters u have to stick with the same brand)

My advice? get the campy brifters, the nice about the campy ones is that they are smaller and if something happend u can fix them, i think u r used to campy, the campy levers a litle bit bigger than the old campy levers. Shimanos are too bulky so if u have small hands it sucks... and sealed so if u brake them u r screwed u have to get a new one. I know many shimano guys will complains... but try a campy brifter 1st then complain all u want OK?

The compact configuration they sell now is the same stuff... the chainline will be better but thats all... U can get campy record 10 crancks in 53/39 quite cheap now because everybody wants the compact ones.

Wheels? if u have the money get a pair of campy vento (clinchers) at ebay for 250 bucks. good wheels. If u want tubular wheels u can try using tufo tubular clinchers, thats cheaper than getting a tubular wheelset or building your own stuff.

Brakes? put anything there, if u have your old brakes they will work fine. The handle bar it will work fine but u might need to get a new stem, there is no quill nomore.

About where to get cheap campy stuff... I know where... send me a msg and i'll give u the phone of the store ok?
