Road damage causes so much financial damage, I have always wondered why humanity who is close to quantum computing can't figure out a way to drastically reduce the occurrence of road damage. We even know why it happens.

Here in the Los Angeles area it's really a mixed bag. Some areas have beautiful road surfaces while many others are terrible. Some major roads are broken and full of holes with big chunks of asphalt bouncing around. Some of this may be due to roads which were built as residential have become carriers of tens of thousands of cars and trucks.
A lot of the older areas have roads made of concrete. These roads can be some of the worst with sharp edged and heaves and huge cracks. This is earthquake country, after all.
It costs a lot to fix roads and we have a lot of roads that need fixing.
