The decal scheme is 1984 but based on the serial number, the subject bicycle was manufactured in Japan during February 1983. It's definitely one of the Bici variants and based on what appears to be a SunTour ARx rear deralleur, it should a Bici I. The original retail price was $319 CDN. The size appears to be small, around 21". To quickly judge if it is the right size, look at the distance between the top and down tubes, at the head tube, and compare it to the UO9.

Generally, a chrome fork is an indicator of a crashed bicycle and a replacement fork, but not in this case. The Bici variants were unique to the Canadian market and came stock with a chromed fork. However, the rear wheel is an obvious replacement. The front rim looks wide to me, so it could be a replacement too.


Assuming it a 1983 Bici I, you should be looking at close to a 3 lb weight reduction, as the claimed weight for this model was 25 lbs. The main tubes were a lighter carbon-manganese alloy, which should provide more resilient ride characteristics. The wheelset should be 700C which will be lighter, stronger and provide more tyre choices. The ARx derailleur's slant paralleogram should shift better than the Simplex on the Peugeot. The overall geometry is likely slightly sportier than that of the UO9. It should be be more responsive than the UO9 but maybe not quite as comfortable. Selective photo assist...
