One problem that kept cropping up in Biotech is the tendency to say, "Wow, you're really good at the bench. Here's a group of 6 people for you to manage!" and then not provide any training. Some do well, some do very poorly, most muddle along.
Most leadership fails to recognize that training others require a different skillset and time commitment in addition to one's skillset and time commitment for doing the job.
