Hey shona. I went through a bad bout with this a few months ago, but am all healed up now and have not had any trouble since. You might want to try the suggestions here:

I use Assos Chamois Creme every time I put on riding shorts/tights now, and am very satisfied with it. Your saddle and its position are also very important. Make sure the fore/aft position is set so that your sit bones line up with the "sweet spot" of the saddle where they are supported and carrying your weight, and a good practice is to use a bubble level to make sure your saddle is level.
