The relative cost hides what is going on. Focusing on this is simplistic.

As a business, renting bikes at $10 (or whatever it would be based on relative cost) a day is a waste. It’s not worth doing. To make it worth doing, they have to charge more. Since you rented bikes at the higher price, you thought it was worth it.

Selling used cars is an important part of the car rental business. You can’t just look at what they charge for rental fees. It would seem that, whatever they are doing, the car rental business works.

Except in rare places, bicycle rentals don’t seem to work as a business (otherwise, you’d see more people doing it). And, even in the places we’re it’s a regular business, all of them charge much more that the cost of the bike would explain.
