My comment had nothing to do with adjusting chain slack. It was made to point out an error.

The comment you made to which I replied reads (in part) as follows:

Chain tension on a derailleur bike is automatically adjusted by the spring on the derailleur arm, so these bikes have a vertical dropout slot with no adjuster screws.


In my reply, I even highlighted the portions of the above to which I was referring. I guess you missed that.

As written, your comment
categorically states that derailleur bikes have vertical dropouts. For that categorical statement to be true, it would need to apply to all bikes/frames using derailleurs. That in turn means your statement, as written, is not correct - because not all bikes with derailleurs (or frames designed to be used with a derailleur) have vertical dropouts.

That's the point I was making. It's also why I provided two examples of frames with horizontal dropouts and adjuster screws that had integral derailleur hangers.

Had you qualified your statement concerning derailleur bikes using vertical dropouts to indicate that there were exceptions, I'd probably have said nothing.
