As I noted above, chainrings should, and do, last well in excess of 10,000 miles even with extended chain use. On the two 30,000+ mile cranks and chainrings I referred to chains were routinely used over 7,000 miles each on them. I change the chain and cassette together between 6,500 and 8,000 miles but have never had to replace the chainrings. A much larger, heavier rider might wear them out sooner but I'm not alone in getting extended chainring life.
