Actually, I didn't make the comparison. I just note that I don't stretch and never really felt the need to.
I also don't stretch before/after running. I just go slow at first and slow at the end. In both cases I make it a point to move after the event so as not to tighten up. Works fine with me. After a monster ride or run I'll subject my legs to COLD water ... this works great.
I doubt if my H2O consumption has any effect on soreness, but it's possible.
