Bikes: '38 Schwinn New World, '72 Peugeot PX-10, 78 Raleigh Comp GS, ’80 Peugeot TH-8 tandem

I suppose with chain ring(s) on both sides of the stoker crank (& it being French-threaded) it doesn’t really matter- access to the cup & lockring is kind of a PITA either way with the crank arms on.
