but... this paint scheme is what Raleigh called "flamboyant", which is the colored clear lacquer over a gold base layer. I think this is also called "candy" in the automotive community? The sunlight bouncing off of the gold layer after passing through the copper layer makes all the difference.
In some regards, this is a vote for "shiny but colored" too. The "cromovelato" paint schemes might be the ultimate in this regard, since they use a polished chrome as the base layer. It's something of a rare beast, because the polished chrome means that the lacquer layer has almost nothing to hang on to, and will flake off at a moment's notice.
One of the nicest examples I've seen of this has been the Magni that Mr. Barron displayed at one of the Classic Rendezvous gatherings.
