When I needed some lower gearing for the Hetchins, I sort of split the difference between French charm and Japanese sensibility by getting the SunXCD clone of the TA Cyclotouriste. The T.A. chainrings are still in production and the cranks are modern forgings with quality stainless fasteners. Ended up using a cup & cone Specialized BB that I had in the parts box. Seems to be just fine, and looks as shiny as the Stronglight 93! The puller threads are the Japanese standard.

The Hetchins is now sporting a SunTour Cyclone GT derailleur, just like the Gran Sport did!

Suntour rules and I have my share of 50.4 cranks. I love the flexibility. The small limit of 26 teeth used to bother me but when touring if I can get close to 20" I'm pretty happy.
