This is true. The tubeless versions of any tire have a thicker carcass than the tube type versions. They are heavier as well. If used with a tube, a road tubeless tire will have a harsher ride quality than the tube type version along with the added weight of the inner tube. I ride road tubeless tires on one of my bikes set up tubeless. On my other bikes that don't have tubeless compatible rims I ride the same model tire in a tube type version
