Thanks for the replies. I just put a crankset on it and it does seem high. Also tried a banded derailleur which would be positioned under the bolt hole and then realised it is an aero frame with oval tubes so no joy. I'll have a look for one of those simplex derailleurs you mentioned, i'm in the right part of the world so it might make finding one a little easier.
