Hmmm. I'm not sure I understand Rusty Nails . You might have figured out that you cannot post pictures here on BikeForums until you have 10 posts. Until then you can post one or more pictures to your personal gallery. From there someone may be able to move the picture here.

Schwinn's and all bikes have the top of the head set with the cup pressed into the frame. Next in the stack would be the bearing retainer then the cone. On Schwinn bikes this cone usually has a cross-hatch knurl on it. Some of these cones had a wrap around shape to them to minimize dirt getting into the bearings. But I don't believe all of the headsets had this wrap around feature. Perhaps this is this the difference from the 1961 to 1962 bikes?

Going up the stack, next is a washer with a tab that engages into the slot in the head tube so that the washer will not spin. Then the nut.

We are looking forward to pictures.

By the way, respond to a few posts here to get your typing skills up and to get past 10 post so that you can post pictures directly. We may want to see the paint on that Typhoon.
