True. But that would only be a problem for fixie riders- freewheelers would only have to be able to clip in, pedal forward, and be able to twist out. Then again, twisting out would also require a rigid upper.

Vans slipons, though, are about the least rigid shoe you can find. It might work with other shoes that are more rigid without any mad max monster-shoe treatment. Fun as that sounds.
