Klein had internal shift cable routing late 80's. My '89 Quantum had downtube shifters mounted on a bracket on top of the downtube, the shift cables then fed internally to the derailers. They were a PITA to change and you could not install STI housing stops. My '95 Quantum has the shift mounts on the side of the downtube, where you could install STI housing stops as desired.
