The Honda is a very cool CVT. You can understand why a flywheel has only made it onto a downhill bike (weight issues) though. I looked around and found one site claiming they saw levers on the CVT, while another said it has grip shifters.

There are quite a few models of CVTs applicable to bicycles out there. My project still remains just designing a shifter that can give you any ratio you want, but not pop out of place if the cable tension jumps around. As far as picking the user interface, that's where the survey comes in. I'd like to do a grip-shift style, but could do with levers as well. Who knows, perhaps there's another style of shifter to be invented yet?

I'm also considering two thumb levers (like a rapid fire system) with one for up on one side of the handlebars and one for down on the other. Pushing on one would reverse the direction of the other, so you could fine tune the ratio with both hands.

Thanks for talking bikes with me!

which style shifter would you prefer?
