Steven McCurry is an amazing photographer. You may not know but he is the National Geographic photographer who took the photo of "The Afghan Girl" many years ago. He immerses himself in his subjects and captures them better than any other photographer alive today, in my opinion. Although the work of Jan Grarup is gripping and intoxicating also. He goes into the hottest of hot spots and captures the moment.
McCurry's Afghan Girl:

Her name is Sharbat Gula, McCurry went back and found her in 2002
She resurfaced in 2014 and eventually got to Italy as a refugee.
