Bikes: 2022 Fuel EX 8, 2021 Domane SL6, Black Beta (Nashbar frame), 2004 Trek 1000C for the trainer

I recently pull a Panaracer Gravel King SK tubeless off the rear of my rail trail bike to put on a tubed tire for in door trainer use. It had Stan’s sealant. I used a blue Scotch pad and some isopropyl alcohol. Next time I’ll try Simple Green or Dawn dishwashing soap. I wanted it clean because it was going on the shelf for spring.

On the other hand I had to replace a broken spoke on the rear of the gravel wheel set for my Domane. It uses Bontrager sealant. For this I just cleaned the heavy build up on the tire bead with the pad and a stiff brush. Even reused the rim tape. Holds air pressure better.

The sealant liquid and propylene glycol (PG). Had to look but it’s used as a plasticizer. Looks like mostly on coating. I’d bet it does the same to some extent in the rubber if the tire. If it defuses uniformly and impacts the tread we may get help with traction with age as the tires theoretically would get harder with age.

Another comment on the PG on the body. Good to know. I knew it was not toxic like ethylene glycol (EG). Have had discussions with a friend who figures the G in both is bad.
