In a way, I've just gone to running 3/32" drivetrains on my fixed gear bikes and it's been quiet enough for me.

I'll likely try 1/8" again if I can ever get a true 42mm chainline on my crank and on a true track bike but I see no disadvantages with running 3/32" currently.
