A bit over 20 years ago we moved out of the city to a burb about 10 miles away. Crime free up until about 5 years ago. Never locked cars or house. Left the garage door open day and night. Then the thefts started to happen. Cars broken into and items stolen out of garages. Perps were high school kids from the local school. Not all thieves are desperate. Some just looking for a thrill. Haven't had any issues since they were caught about 3 years ago, but we still lock everything and keep the garage door closed.
