We had an utterly black cat, Shadow; we couldn't find a white hair on him. He was a big, muscular boy, really lived up to "house panther". Unfortunately he was also a bully to everyone but his mother, Gabby. They were an unlikely bonded pair; when he died after a dog attack, she soon followed him.
As a side note, I found the dog; he was an
Australian Kelpie who belonged to an elderly couple and regularly escaped his back yard. I couldn't really be angry with her, as she was worried about her hospitalized husband, but he was
seriously the wrong dog for them.
