DetailsAustro-Daimler UltimaSL in smoked chrome Reynolds 531 tubing with Shimano Dura-Ace components. Added oversized tires and a Brooks saddle for cruising. Cool history, these frames were made in the Austro-Daimler/Puch plant in Austria, where MB G-Wagons were made at the time. The smoked chrome finish is an industrial coating process used for hydraulic components so its very durable and heavy duty, looks really cool as well. This finish was also used on some earlier A-D Vent Noir versions as well, they look very similar. Scammers: Local pickup only, don't waste your time trying phone verification, wire transfers, etc.. Frame measures 58cm center-top seat tube, 57cm center-center top tube. The UltimaSL in smoked chrome was only offered by Austro-Daimler as a frameset in 1982. This bike was built with the exclusive Reynolds 531 Professional tube set. This was their top 531 tube set with only 753 above it. For 1982 the factory offerings included the ULTIMA and the ULTIMA SL models made with Reynolds 531SL their special lightweight (hence SL) tube set and forks. The Reynolds 531SL (explained above in this article) is a lighter weight set owing to the choice of alloy, though the tube wall of the SL can be as thick or thicker than those of the standard 531 alloy frames. An additional detail on the ULTIMA and ULTIMA SL was the stamping of the fork crown top at either side with “PUCH”. The ULTIMA SL became available with the greenish-gold chromed finish made popular by the Vent Noir II, so at first glance these might be confused for one another. The top of the line Austro-Daimler bicycle was marketed as the Ultima series. These are built upon a TI Reynolds 531 (pronounced “five three one”) alloy lugged frame. Later in the production history the “ULTIMA super leicht” were introduced.
