A pity that the video is gone... One of the Honda gearboxes used cams and a one-way clutch to produce an infinitely variable output. Back in about 1990 I knew an Australian guy called Eric Willmot who invented and patented this gearbox (Australian patents 1991906266 and 1992902568). Both patents have lapsed so I guess he didn't find a commercial application / backer. I helped him make a working model - it was a clever idea but I had my doubts that the output would ever be smooth enough or vibration-free. I have no idea if Honda used his design or developed the idea independently.
