Have you thought about getting dynamo lights? I think about that sometimes because dead batteries suck to deal with when you need working lights. But I guess they don't really light up if not actively pedaling (or flicker at times?), which I don't really love the idea of.
I've thought about dynamo lights long enough to decide it's not the best for my situation. I have six bikes that I will ride depending on the weather conditions and/or the load I'm carrying. I purchased mounts for each bike and I'll just swap my set of lights onto the bike I happen to be riding on that particular day. Having to retrofit all six bikes with dynamo hubs would be cost prohibitive.
