There are plenty of higher priced HID's for sure, but the Cygolight can be had for under $250 so can the Battery Space light. You can get four hours out of the Cygolight.
Not that you need one.
The bulbs don't really wear out as fast as people think. The bulb thing is not a problem. It's a misconception from reading the specs and thinking it's worse than it is. The bulbs are as tough or tougher than a halogen in an accident.
There have been halogen lights as bright as HID for more than a decade, but they don't have the run time. Not everyone needs the run time. If one knows they don't need it then it's a waste.
It's just that if you need the power and the run time, the HID allows for a lot less battery capacity. When I bought my new HID there were no halogens that would run that long with that much power on the market. Unless I bought more batteries to bring along. There still are no halogens on the market that will give me the run time I want and the power, no such thing.
Hopefully, someone in the market for a new light would look at the "light selection guide" thread and not buy any more light than they need. Although it's good to buy a little more than you think you need to be on the safe side.
