You may simply be one of those people, like me, who cannot tolerate certain types of pressure at given points on your body. That's why I have settled on North Road bars ( see photo above). You can only go wrong by about $15.00 for trying them. I don't get 'restless hands' at all. Wind resistance is over-rated unless you race. I just got home from a 50 mile ride sponsored by my club. It was a hilly course described as "challenging." People smiled and commented on the look, but nobody was laughing, especially with an average speed of 16 mph. (Not blistering but respectable among moderate to brisk riders on fairly steep hills.) These bars have revived this sport for me. You may need a wider saddle.
Give 'em a shot, you've nothing to lose but pain.
EDIT: I started this thtread with the idea of going to the mustache bars. Almost went to the Midge which is pretty cool, too. Then, I thought about the most comfortable bikes I have ever ridden, the English 3-speed. So, now I have the same comfort, but with a modern, lightweight bike. Voila! Painless Perfection
