FWIW: as [MENTION=350933]anga[/MENTION] noted above, Microshift now makes a full line of different shifters for the Shimano Alfine/Nexus 8-speed lineup - bar ends, thumb shifters, twist-grips, and triggers. Additionally, here's a quote from an e-mail I received from Microshift nearly two years ago:

SB-N080 is Microshift's Alfine-8 drop bar shifter set - left brake only, right "brifter" style.
