Odd. My Araya rims off my '84 Univega GT are W/O HP. They definitely have the "hook" inside the rim.; Maybe because mine are HP (I read once it meant high pressure)? Or is it just the different in manufacturer? I use folders.

That looks like a bulged bead rim - it might have a slight bump at the edge of the sides, but it's not enough to grab the bead of the tire reliably.
It's a straight-sided rim, effectively, which explains why Araya classifies it as "w/o HP."
