You bring up a fine point here. My '69 Bottecchia came to me with Aero levers so the "non period correct" look is sort of baked in to my view of the bike and I hate to say, I like the tidiness of it. A lot.

But if it's the performance and comfort of aero levers you're looking to combine with traditional cable routing, there is a solution. Shimano made 105 non-aero SLR levers for a while. And those are nice. Put them on my Daccordi to make it eligible for L'Eroica:
