It will typically 'lift' any paint that has rust underneath it. So, on a section that has rust, but otherwise intact paint, it will not terribly effect the paint. If the paint is already lifting, it's probably going to come off.
Aluminum will not fare well in the oxalic acid. Better to do those parts in evaporust, which will still damage them long-term, just...less.
