Monterey is about 3 hrs from Sacramento. I'm not too sure of what is around there (Sacramento) for riding. The trails around here
are pretty nice and Santa Cruz is only about 40 mins away. Tahoe isn't that far away from Sacramento (a couple of hours) and a little birdy has told me there's some really nice riding up there.
Ragardless, enjoy the riding with your Dad. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to head out with me - my 3 yr old son already wants to 'go for a bike ride with Daddy.' He's funny, he tells me to get my bike, put on my shoes, and won't let me ride without a helmet. We just ride around the driveways and sidewalks near our house. He doesn't like it much when I ride from the house to the trails - he wants to go with me!
