Thank you all for the advice!! (I finally passed 10 posts and 48 hours, so I can reply!)
I ended up passing on the $50 FB one — I don’t know enough to tell if a bike has major issues from a test drive, and it seemed like the seller was equally clueless.
I met with the CL seller though, and he was awesome. He retired and fixes up 3-speeds as a hobby— he has a bunch of Raleighs for himself and wife, as well as the ones he’s restoring to sell, and when I spotted a matching bronze-green prestube rear rack (that he was planning to put on his Superbe) he included it!
The 71’ Sport felt good, shifted smoothly, and braked well when I test rode it, and honestly that’s the extent of my bike knowledge at this point so I just trusted the good vibes I got from the seller and bought it.
I’ll still take the ‘61 Superbe (that I got for free) in to the LBS to see what it’d take to get it fixed up though. It’s such a nice bike, and if it’s not crazy expensive to get running it’d be nice for my husband to have a bike too : )
Now, for what y’all have REALLY been waiting for…
bike pics! (Though it’s only letting me post 10 images, so if I didn’t include something important let me know and I’ll upload a pic tomorrow!)
The ‘71 Sport:
and the ‘61 Superbe
(I didn’t know what parts were important/interesting so I took a lot of pics!)
Thanks again for the input!
