Yeah, I guess we should differentiate between a general group ride (like the Montrose Ride, the Simi Ride, or the Donut Ride) and a group ride specific to one club. The club ones should indeed be considered exclusive and one would want to inquire before attempting to join in. The general ones just want you to be safe, and will let you know pretty quickly (and harshly) if you're not welcome back. Edit: Shop ride too, which is usually open to anyone and lead by a shop employee.
