Theft concerns aside (which I will let the OP decide for themselves seeing as none of us know the particulars of his situation and they are likely an adult who can think for themselves), if the question is which is better for the bike... I don't think it matters.
Yes. Yes it is. There's more room in a dwelling than in a car. I've lived in and rode my bike to some really small places and was never unable to bring my bike in.
I would just rent one and leave the one I own at home before I would leave it in a car.
