If you want to stick with Trek and you're choosing between the FX 7.6 ($1040 MSRP) and the Pilot 1.2 ($990 MSRP) then consider going with the Pilot 1.2 Flatbar ($880 MSRP). You'll get a feel for the ride and if you decide to go to a drop bar it'll be cheap to add a drop bar, barend shifters, and brake levers.
