Do you lube your pedals every 2,000 miles?? If not they will be dirty and maybe near dry.
IF you get a cartridge, then get a FSA 7420. This came on my roadster at 113 mm. Very nice design. I just ordered another longer one because my chainline was way off with a diff IGH. They'll go 10,000 miles easily.
They have way better bearings than the CHEAP Shimano one I looked at. They tighten by turning the top towards the back, both sides.
The loose bearings need lube around every 2,000 miles as well. New bike greases are so runny they are pathetic.
