steel plate strap, a marine hardware store might have or could get some in stainless even. Before the plate that passed through the rack bolts and caught the brake mounting hole we got a co-worker to buck up the provisionally mounted rack and hammered the semi formed plate to wrap around the stays. Took a steady hand with s short 4# sledge. Skill I tell you. Never do that in front of a customer.
