Winters can be brutal here, but they can be beautiful and fun. They sometimes plow the bike paths BEFORE the streets. And lots of other winter activities right in town. But you definitely need to adjust the viscosity of your blood every fall / spring.
The father in law would grumble about the bike paths being cleared of snow before the streets. Madison is a bike friendly place!
