Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

I know that you like to argue about any and every thing, but there's no real argument here.

We agree (unless you now don't) that life isn't binary. As you pointed out, going a bit over the line doesn't guarranty failure. But it does increase the odds.

It's like walking near a cliff. Easy enough to do safely, but anybody can trip, and it's nice to have plenty of room to fall without falling over.
Pushing two limits is like that cliffside walk on a rainy day.

Factor a possibly inaccurate tire gauge, a tire built at the low limit if the maker's spec, a worn or damaged bead area, slightly imperfect seating, and so on, and now it's a cliffside stroll on a rainy night.
