I don't have any technical advice for you but are you saying that in 2018 they were making Crosstrails with triple chainrings? It's that I thought those had gone away by then. My CT is an original 2013 and in Comp Disc version it came with a 2x10 SRAM drivetrain, which at the time I saw as an advance over the triple-chainring 105 groupset on my Specialized Sequoia road bike .
