Or cars speeding through residential areas because no one has been hit yet. And running stop signs and red lights without looking is fine since you haven't been hit yet.

While I find the ad no big deal it does seem out of place in Bicycling. I think the OP deserves points for taking action before the damage is done, instead of waiting until after.

The other side is that while the ad is over the top, so is his letter. It comes off as a theat and makes it clear that there is nop action bicycling can reasonably take to make him happy.
