While I find the ad no big deal it does seem out of place in Bicycling. I think the OP deserves points for taking action before the damage is done, instead of waiting until after.
The other side is that while the ad is over the top, so is his letter. It comes off as a theat and makes it clear that there is nop action bicycling can reasonably take to make him happy.
I didn't say it didn't matter. I just posed the question for clarification. Clearly it matters to the OP, and to you.
The rest of us can draw our own conclusions.
