This is also my experience frequently. Melatonin helps me fall asleep, but then I wake up after a couple of hours and have trouble getting back to sleep.

BTW, having a dark room helps, and when I travel I bring along eye shades.

But getting a reliable 6-7 hours of sleep is hard.
