Melatonin in doses higher than 3 mg makes me jittery before bed though I do fall asleep fast. But with those high doses, I also seem to wake up at 2:00AM on the dot and can't fall back asleep without at least an hour of tossing and turning.
This is also my experience frequently. Melatonin helps me fall asleep, but then I wake up after a couple of hours and have trouble getting back to sleep.
BTW, having a dark room helps, and when I travel I bring along eye shades.
But getting a reliable 6-7 hours of sleep is hard.
