I posted this on a different wheel build thread, but I think it holds true (excuse the pun!) here! Read everything, watch the Park tool videos, get a knackard old rim,buy a spoke key, take it apart, put it together, but most of all decide if it interests you, life is too short to not to choose what you enjoy!

“I build wheels because I enjoy it. It is a kinda OCD thing with me, the repetition, the micro level of chasing down ever decreasing run out, understanding what the atoms in the metal are trying to do. I also love the tools, and spend my free (ha-ha) cash on this. I build for family and friends, I am Cytech advanced, all taken for a hobby, and I want to do more. I have a yearning to go semi-full time.

I have found people either love building wheels, hate and never again build wheels, or learn enough to get a wheel round and workable for commuting etc. If it does not float your boat (and do have a go), honestly don’t do it to yourself and just buy/ask a OCD person to make a set, you have to commit if you want to build great wheels.Worth it? Depends what you value?

For me, painting is a chore of unbelievable tourture. I can do it, have done it in the past, but I find someone else for that now. Whatever you do enjoy. Ciao”.
