I just ordered a neat little gizmo from Campmor that I'm hoping will work on the bike. It's called an ultrapod, and it's a tiny little plastic folding tripod with grooved legs that nest and a velcro strap that can be wrapped around anything up to about 3" in diameter. Costs about 6 bucks. It works well on a flat surface, but I haven't tried it on the bike yet. I think it'll just strap to the stem and hold my little Canon Elf securly.
